Teaching at KIPP Bayview Academy
Teachers are the backbone of Bayview Academy. Teachers are supported by a school that is committed to success through integrity, responsibility, initiative, and excellence. Thus, every individual in the school is expected to evaluate her practices, and determine what she needs to hone her teaching skills. Teachers have adequate planning time and access to professional development resources, including experts, workshops, and conferences with other KIPP School teachers. Parents are engaged in regular communication with the school, through weekly progress reports and the advisory system. This helps to develop close and supportive relationships between teachers and families. The principal observes classes regularly and follows up with conversations about teaching as well as about what the teacher needs to be successful.
Teachers at Bayview Academy are essential to the decision making process. Teachers make decisions about curriculum, school programs, and students. As a startup school, there are many opportunities for teachers to take on projects and to help to shape the Bayview Academy culture and programs. Teachers meet in grade-level teams once a week and make decisions about management and discipline, as well as events for that grade level. The entire faculty meets at least once a month where teachers provide i nput and help make decisions about the direction of the school.
